Appointments

You can make an appointment at your surgery either by calling in person, telephoning: Hadleigh House 01202 692268, Hadleigh Lodge 01202 694721.  Or registering to use our on-line booking system, registration forms are available from reception.

Routine appointments can be made up to 4 weeks in advance.

If you have an urgent problem we will ensure you are seen on the same day as your request. We encourage our patients to see the same doctor on each occasion although we cannot guarantee an appointment with your usual doctor if you need to be seen as an emergency.

Why not use our new service eConsult

eConsult is a new service we are providing, this will allow you to email and consult with a GP as well as being able to seek self-help advice and be signposted to other health services.

Extended Opening Hours

For your convenience some pre-booked appointments are now available from 08:00, after 18:00 and on two Saturday mornings a month although you may not be able to see your own GP at these times. The extended hours appointments are intended to help those at work or who are otherwise normally too busy during office hours to attend. please consider whether you need one of these appointments as they are limited.  Please ask for details at reception.

Telephone Appointments

If it is felt appropriate the receptionist may be able to offer you a telephone appointment when you can consult your doctor without having to travel to the surgery.  A time will be arranged with you and the doctor will phone you. Please remember that the receptionist will not be able to interrupt your doctor’s surgery for you to speak to him/her immediately.

Training Practice

We are a training practice and may offer you an appointment with a Registrar or a student. We will give you the choice of seeing them – please inform a receptionist if you would rather see another doctor.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Home Visits

The duty doctor will see you at your home if you are too ill to come to the surgery.  If at all possible, try to ring between 08:00 and 10:30 as this helps us to plan the rounds. 

Please also ensure that your house is clearly numbered.

When you telephone for a visit, the receptionist may ask you for a few details.  Our reception team have been trained to make these enquiries so that we can help you in the most appropriate way.

Please remember that seeing you at home takes on average four times as long as seeing you in the surgery, so please help us by keeping home visits to a minimum.  Babies and small children can often be brought to the surgery and we will do our best to ensure that they are slotted in and seen promptly.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
